CHIANG RAI – Police are searching for clues after a 36-year-old local man was found dead by the side of a rural entrance road to a rice field in Chiang Rai’s Mueang district on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
The discovery came just one day after local rescue teams and district officials had assisted the man when his motorcycle became heavily stuck in deep mud at the same location. Authorities are currently investigating the precise cause of death, as initial physical examinations showed no immediate signs of foul play.
Local rescue teams and administrative officials from the Rim Kok subdistrict rushed to the scene around 12:30 PM on June 6 after receiving reports from local farmers. The body was discovered lying on the shoulder of the local farm access road—regionally known as the “25-Rai Road”—located in Farm Samphanthakit Village (Moo 1), Rim Kok subdistrict.
Officers from the Ban Du Police Station and forensic physicians from the Chiang Rai Prachanukroh Hospital quickly cordoned off the area to conduct a preliminary examination. The deceased was later identified as Mr. Komsan, a 36-year-old resident of the neighboring Nang Lae subdistrict.
Location of Incident: 25-Rai Road, Farm Samphanthakit Village, Rim Kok, Mueang Chiang Rai. The time of Discovery: Approximately 12:00 PM – 12:30 PM, June 6, 2026

A Mysterious Timeline: The Previous Day’s Rescue
What has puzzled local investigators is the sequence of events leading up to Komsan’s death. According to interviews with village residents and local law enforcement, the site was the focus of an official response just 24 hours prior.
- June 5 (The Mud Incident): Rim Kok administrative officers and Ban Du investigative police were called to the farmland. A man—later confirmed to be Komsan—had driven his motorcycle deep into a mud pit in the middle of the field.
- The Police Check: Worried that the vehicle might be tied to illegal activity or theft, officers thoroughly checked Komsan and his motorcycle.
- The Release: Finding absolutely nothing illegal or suspicious, the officers helped pull his motorcycle out of the thick mud and permitted him to leave the area freely.
Local witnesses reported that despite being cleared to leave, Komsan did not return home. Instead, he was seen wandering around the immediate vicinity for the remainder of the afternoon and evening on June 5.

Current Status of the Investigation
Medical staff noted that a preliminary external autopsy revealed no obvious wounds, cuts, or blunt force trauma that would point directly to a physical assault or murder.
Because the physical evidence at the scene remains inconclusive, the Ban Du Police Department is keeping all options open. Detectives are currently interviewing family members to understand Komsan’s recent state of mind, health conditions, or any potential underlying medical issues that could explain his sudden death in the summer heat.
The body has been transferred to the forensic department to determine the official cause of death. Investigators have stated that a conclusive report will be issued as soon as the full laboratory and toxicology results are finalized.
