PHUKET – A major emergency operation is currently underway in Phuket after a fire broke out on a commercial speedboat in the waters of Makham Bay. The incident, which began late Sunday afternoon, has triggered a rapid response from local disaster prevention teams and marine rescue units.
At approximately 5:20 PM on May 10, 2026, the “Khaimuk Center” (Phuket Provincial Administration Organization’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Division) received an urgent report of a fire. The vessel involved has been identified as a speedboat belonging to the well-known tour operator LoveAndaman.
Witnesses near the bay reported seeing thick black smoke billowing from the vessel, visible from several points along the coastline. Because the fire occurred on the water, specialized marine firefighting equipment was required to prevent a potential disaster.

Rapid Mobilization by Phuket Authorities
In response to the crisis, Mr. Rewat Areerob, President of the Phuket Provincial Administration Organization (PPAO), took immediate action. Upon receiving the situational report, he ordered an “active response” strategy to contain the blaze before it could spread.
The primary mission for the crew of the Khaimuk Andaman 5 is twofold: first, to extinguish the fire on the LoveAndaman boat, and second, to create a “water curtain” that prevents the fire from spreading to other vessels moored in the busy bay.
As of early Sunday evening, the situation remains fluid. While firefighting teams work to stabilize the vessel, several critical factors are being monitored:
- Casualty Assessment: Authorities are currently coordinating with the boat owner and tour company to determine if any crew members or passengers were on board at the time the fire started.
- Environmental Protection: Officers are working to minimize the impact on the marine ecosystem. A major concern with boat fires is the potential for fuel leaks or chemical runoff into the protected waters of the Andaman Sea.
- Vessel Proximity: Makham Bay is a frequent docking point for various tourist and fishing boats. Preventing a “chain reaction” fire is the top priority for the PPAO.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. Once the fire is completely extinguished and the vessel is cooled down, forensic teams and marine investigators will board the boat to determine the origin of the blaze. Initial checks are being conducted on the vessel’s registration and maintenance records in coordination with the Phuket Marine Office.
Residents and boat operators are advised to keep a safe distance from the area to allow emergency vessels clear passage. The Phuket Provincial Administration Organization has stated they will provide a full update once the scene is secured and the headcount is confirmed.
This is a developing story. We will provide more details as they become available from official sources.
