First Flu Patient Admitted To Gundersen Health System, Reports Say.
(CTN News) – Gundersen Health System has recently seen an increase in cases of influenza, including the admission of their first hospitalized patient.
Those who are pregnant, individuals over the age of 60, and those with pre-existing health conditions are particularly susceptible to this contagious illness.
According to Megen Meller, Gundersen’s Infection Preventionist, the key to prevention is getting vaccinated.
In contrast, if you still get the flu after receiving the flu shot, you may experience some discomfort for a short period of time, but your recovery will be noticeably faster than if you hadn’t been vaccinated.
Although the recommended age for getting a flu shot is six months,
Pregnant women can take advantage of this natural approach to protect their child even before they reach the six-month mark.
“If the mother is breastfeeding, the antibodies passed through breast milk will provide defense for the child until they are old enough to receive the vaccine,” explained Meller.
As the holiday season approaches, Meller emphasizes the importance of getting vaccinated, especially when spending time with family members. This will not only protect yourself but also your loved ones.
