CHIANG RAI – A quiet evening turned into a nightmare for a local family on May 12, 2026. A devastating hit-and-run accident claimed the life of a 46-year-old man in the Chedi Luang sub-district. Now, local police are urgently asking the public to step forward with any information to help catch the driver.
The tragic incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety in the region. Authorities are working around the clock, but they need the community’s help to bring the responsible party to justice.
The accident took place on the main road in Ban Huai Som, Moo 3. Police officers from the Mae Suai district police station received an emergency call about a severe car crash. They quickly rushed to the scene alongside local rescue teams.
When they arrived, they found a heartbreaking sight. A man, later identified as 46-year-old Mr. Pisit, was found dead at the scene. He was lying on the side of the road, having suffered fatal injuries, including severely broken arms and legs.
Family members who rushed to the accident site were completely crushed by the news. Adding to the heavy grief is the tragic fact that Mr. Pisit was just a few steps away from safety. According to the early police investigation, he was walking home and was only two or three houses away from his front door when the crash happened.
The Search for the Suspect
Witness reports and early evidence paint a clear picture of what happened. An unknown sedan, driving at a very high speed, struck Mr. Pisit. The impact was so hard that he died instantly. Instead of stopping to help or call emergency services, the driver quickly pressed the gas pedal and sped away into the night.
Hit-and-run accidents remain a serious issue across the country. You can read more about national road safety efforts through the Thailand Road Safety Center.
Thankfully, the driver did not escape entirely unseen. Security cameras from nearby homes caught the accident on video. The CCTV footage shows the speeding sedan, but unfortunately, the video is not clear enough to read the license plate number just yet. Police are currently using video enhancement tools to get a better look at the car and identify the owner.
How You Can Help the Investigation
Police officers in Mae Suai are speeding up their investigation, but public tips are often the key to solving these cases. Law enforcement is officially asking for cooperation from anyone who might know something.
Please contact the police immediately if you:
- Saw the accident happen on the evening of May 12 in Ban Huai Som.
- Noticed a speeding sedan in the Mae Suai district around the time of the crash.
- Have dashcam footage from your own car that might have recorded the suspect’s vehicle.
- Recognize a recently damaged sedan matching the description in your neighborhood.
- Do you have any other small clues that seem suspicious or related to this event?
Every single clue, no matter how small it might seem, could be the key to solving this case. The local police rely heavily on community support to track down people who break the law. By working together, the community can help catch the suspect and bring some peace to Mr. Pisit’s grieving family.
If you have any information, please reach out to the Mae Suai Police Station or your local authorities right away. Do not try to approach the suspect yourself. Let the police handle the legal process and return justice to the victim.
