1 Dead, 4 Injured In Atlanta Hospital Shooting; Suspect At Large

(CTN News) – During a shooting inside a building in Midtown Atlanta Wednesday evening, one person was killed, four others were wounded, and a suspect remains at large. Police said a suspect is at large.

In a tweet, the Atlanta Police Department stated that, “Officers are actively searching for the suspect and any other victims.”.

Deion Patterson, 24, has been identified as the suspect in this case, and police have shared four surveillance photos of him. On Twitter, Northside Hospital announced that the shooting occurred at its midtown location.

There have been no further Atlanta shots fired since the initial incident, which has been labeled as an “active shooter situation,” unfolded, police said. Sadly, police said that one of the injured people died on the scene, while the other three were taken to the hospital.

“Anyone with information about the location of this person should contact 911. It is believed that the suspect is armed and dangerous, so people should not approach him,” police wrote on Twitter.

According to the Atlanta police, the incident was in the process of being transitioned from “a highly active situation to the development of a highly active investigation” as of Wednesday afternoon.

A press conference was held in the afternoon by Robert Jansen, chief medical officer of Grady Health System, in which he said that three of the four injured – all adults – were in critical condition.

In all four cases, the patients were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, which is located close to Northside Hospital, which has a midtown location.

According to Jansen, the hospital immediately issued a mass casualty call and multiple surgeons and trauma staff were in the trauma bay within minutes, anticipating up to 12 patients would be brought into the trauma bay.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Atlanta hospital had reopened to visitors after initially closing to them on Tuesday morning.

It was initially requested that all residents in the area secure their buildings and put up shelters as soon as possible. There was a request by the police to stay away from the area for anyone who was not in the area.

A safety alert issued by Atlanta Public Schools has stated that several schools will be locked down throughout the remainder of the day “out of an abundance of caution,” pending further information from law enforcement officials.

It has been suggested that this may create traffic issues this afternoon, which will result in bus delays, according to a tweet from the district.
