Toyota RAV4 2022: 5 Things To Know Before Buying

Avatar of Arsi Mughal

Toyota RAV4

Toyota RAV4 is a compact crossover SUV introduced to the United States in 1994. This fifth-generation moniker, which was released in 2018, still has the same charm that made it such a great little SUV more than two decades ago. The compact size, impressive interior space, and a long list of safety and driver-assistance features make it the most popular choice in the segment.

The base MSRP of the Toyota RAV4 2022 remains the same as the model it replaces, $27,740. All trims except the base LE have been updated with new headlights. LED foglights have also been added. As the 2022 Toyota RAV4 faces competition from the likes of the Mazda CX-5, Honda CR-V, and Nissan Rogue, here are ten things you need to know.

1. Toyota RAV4 – Ride Quality Is Still The Best Of The Segment

Being a part of the same generation as the fifth-generation Toyota RAV4, the 2022 Toyota RAV4 is no exception. Toyota has ensured that the ride is comfortable for the passengers, as this compact SUV spends most of its time on highways and in cities.

The ride quality of the upcoming Toyota RAV4 is better than that of the Mazda CX-5 and the Honda CR-V, thanks to the independent suspension setup. The suspension is neither too stiff nor too light, and that helps to absorb all the bumps and potholes thrown by the city and highway roads in the United States. Highways are very stable vertically, and the suspension operates quietly.

2. Toyota RAV4 – Exterior Styling Stands Out

For a family SUV, the design is certainly one of the most important factors. The Toyota RAV4 stands out from its competitors with a sharp body line and multiple elements making it stand out in the segment.

On all trims except the base LE, the front end now features LED headlamps with LED DRLs. The blacked-out grille and air dam enhance the handsomeness of the hood. As seen from the side, the 19″ alloy wheels, silver skid plates, and well-integrated roof rails make it more stylish. The best-in-class ground clearance and height make it more muscular.

3. Toyota RAV4 – Comes Loaded With All The Driver-Assistance Features

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 is equipped with a range of safety and assistance features as standard, which helped it to achieve a 5-star overall rating in the NHTSA crash test. It also received a good rating in the IIHS crash test. ABS with EBD, side-impact beams, a hose of airbags, traction control, stability control, etc. are all available.

But when it comes to driver-assistance tech, the 2022 RAV4 sets itself apart. It comes standard with automated emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and much more.

4. Toyota RAV4 – Refinement Could Have Been Better

The Toyota RAV4 is considered an all-rounder of the compact SUV segment in 2022, but it is lacking in refinement. Although the Toyota Camry’s base price is $27,740, the refinement level is a notch below that of the Accord. As the revs climb, the 2.5-liter naturally aspirated inline-4 motor sounds very coarse, especially in comparison to the 2022 Honda CR-V’s sweet-sounding engine. The sound deadening isn’t top-notch, and quite a lot of external sounds do filter into the cabin.

5. Toyota RAV4 – It’s Not Fun To Drive

In comparison to the Mazda CX-5, which is considered the best SUV in the segment when it comes to driving pleasure, the RAV4 doesn’t feel as exciting as it could be. This is largely due to a motor that offers just enough power and a suspension system that focuses more on comfort.

Both the FWD and AWD versions of the RAV4 exhibit a fair amount of understeer when pushed, and the excessive body roll won’t excite the driver or passengers. The electronic power steering lacks a quality feel and feedback.
