20th Century Studios Confirms ‘Avatar 2’ Will Be Released In 2022
James Cameron’s Avatar 2 has been in development for almost a decade since the first two sequels of Avatar were announced in 2010. Avatar 2 was originally planned to release in 2014 but was delayed due to the highly ambitious scope of the movie, which finally locked the release date for 2020 with Avatar 3 releasing in 2021 and Avatar 4 and 5 in 2024 and 2025. Due to the pandemic, the sequels were further delayed. Movie producers, the 20th Century Studios, have confirmed that they are sticking with the 2022 release date for the movie.

Avatar 2 to release In 2022
James Cameron’s Avatar 2 has certainly been a long time coming, having originally been announced in 2016. The production of Cameron’s movies was delayed due to the size and complexity of the movies, which is no surprise given the advanced technological advances they featured. Several times since it was originally scheduled to release in 2014, Avatar 2 is now slated for release in December 2022.
20th Century Fox President Steve Asbell was recently asked by The Hollywood Reporter whether Avatar 2 will stick to the December 16, 2022 release date. Asbell confirmed the movie will stick to its 2022 release date. He said, “Yes. It will blow people away. You aren’t ready for what Jim will do.”
Avatar 2 will follow Jake Sully and Neytiri (Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana), who have formed a family and are trying to stay together. Whenever an old threat returns, they are forced to leave their home and explore Pandora’s different regions. One of the movie’s first sequels will explore the oceans of Pandora, and the makers are also developing new technology to film underwater performance capture scenes, a feat never before achieved. Avatar sequels are currently in production and scheduled for release in 2024, 2026, and 2028.
