Police in Phuket have reported the death of a Russian tourist. The body was discovered in a canal near the Naga statue in front of Karon Beach, Karon Subdistrict, at approximately 1 p.m. on Sept. 3.

The police and rescue volunteers discovered a shirtless Caucasian man in a pool of water with injuries to his body when they arrived at the scene. He was identified as 27-year-old Mr. Orlov (last name withheld) from Russia.

The deceased’s passport was discovered in a black knapsack located adjacent to the body. In the bag was also a passport belonging to a woman of the same nationality and various other documents.

Phuket police officers established a perimeter around the area and summoned forensic experts and a forensic doctor from Vachira Phuket Hospital to investigate. They estimated the Russian man had been deceased for approximately eight hours.

During the examination of the body, forensic experts discovered bruises around the eye, near the left ear, bruises on both left and right arms with cuts down to the bone, a wound on the left leg, and bruises under the chin and in the mouth.

Forensic experts do not believe that it was suicide as if it were, there would be incisions on only one arm rather than both.

The police investigative team thoroughly examined CCTV footage in the vicinity and coordinated with other police stations to determine whether any missing person reports had been submitted.

A police spokesperson said that before reporting to the Russian embassy, they will conduct a comprehensive investigation into the cause of death. The man’s body was sent to the Vachira Phuket Hospital for a comprehensive postmortem examination.

A reporter from Khaosod News interviewed Ms. Na, an employee at a nearby massage establishment and stated that she heard someone shouting near where the deceased was found and proceeded to investigate.

She contacted the authorities after observing the man lying on the ground. She said she had never encountered this tourist before and noted that the area is typically bustling during the day.
