Amazon's New Initiative Aims To Help People Manage Chronic Conditions Digitally

(CTN News) – An initiative launched by Amazon today aims to make it easier for people to manage chronic conditions such as prediabetes, diabetes, and high blood pressure with digital health benefits.

The new initiative is being launched by Amazon in partnership with Omada Health, a digital health company.

As a result of the new service, users will be able to check their coverage, apply for programs, and manage their chronic conditions.

If a user is covered by a specific Health Condition Program through their health plan or employer, they may have access to connected devices, a personal care team, health coaching, nutrition planning, and more. Some of the company’s programs may be covered by your insurance plan or employer without any additional cost to you.

More than 20 million eligible members of Omada Health can now discover and enroll in Omada’s programs for diabetes prevention, diabetes, and hypertension on Amazon.

To determine if they are eligible for a program, members can initiate a general coverage check through the Amazon Health web page. With the new enrollment pathway, Amazon aims to reach “the one out of every ten commercially insured Americans who have access to Omada but may not be aware of it.”

There are more than 1,900 employers and health plans on Omada’s network, and Amazon will be promoting Omada’s cardiometabolic programs in order to increase enrollment at those organizations.

Amazon’s goal is to help people get and stay healthy by making it easier for them to discover products, services, and professionals that can be of assistance to them.

According to Aaron Martin, vice president of Amazon’s healthcare division, one of the ways to do this is to make it easier for them to discover products, services, and professionals. Often times, many people are unaware of the health care benefits they may be entitled to under their employer’s or health insurance plan’s health benefits plan, which are typically free of charge or subsidized by the company or plan.

Our goal is to provide even greater support to our customers when they shop for health-related products on Amazon by displaying to them these additional health care benefits in order to help improve their health even more.

To help customers discover which benefits might be available to them, the company plans to expand its partnerships with digital health companies so that they can learn as much as they can about these products.
