Next Month, Telegram Will Launch Ad Revenue Sharing Using Toncoin

(CTN News) – Pavel Durov, Telegram’s founder and CEO, announced today that the company is going to launch an ad platform next month, allowing channel owners to receive financial rewards for their channels.

On the TON blockchain, the company will use toncoin as a means of paying out rewards. From the beginning of 2018, channel owners will begin to receive 50% of all revenue made by the company from the displaying of ads on their channels.

In Telegram channels, users can broadcast public messages to a wide audience at the same time. In a recent interview with Durov, he said that while Telegram broadcast channels generate one trillion views every month, only 10% of those views are monetized through Ads, Telegram’s promotion tool.

A major shift towards monetizing content will be marked in March when the Telegram Ad Platform will be opened to channel owners in nearly one hundred countries.

According to TechCrunch, the company has not yet shared the criteria for revenue sharing with its partners.

To ensure that ad payments and withdrawals are fast and secure, we will exclusively use the TON blockchain for our ad payment and withdrawal systems,” Durov wrote in his announcement post on Telegram.

We will sell ads and share revenue with channel owners in Toncoin in a similar manner to how we do with Telegram usernames on Fragment.

A virtuous circle will result, allowing content creators to either cash out their Toncoins or reinvest them in promoting and upgrading their channels in order to create a virtuous cycle.”

At the time of writing, the price of the TON token has soared nearly 40% to over $2.92 after the news was released immediately, and is currently sitting at $2.65 at the moment.

In the wake of this latest announcement, Telegram has joined the ranks of companies such as YouTube and X (formerly Twitter), two of which offer their users a share of ad revenue.

The YouTube Partner Program offers creators a share of 55% of the ad revenue from their videos, while the X platform starts allowing users to share revenue from their videos in July 2023. As part of its Ads on Reels monetization program, Meta has also been testing a new payout model that it has been applying to its ads.

In the world, Telegram has more than 800 million active users on a monthly basis.
