Apple Settles a Trade Secret Lawsuit Brought By Rivos

(CTN News) – Earlier on Friday, an Apple court filing indicated that the company would settle a lawsuit that accused Rivos of stealing Apple’s trade secrets related to computer chip technology, according to a court filing in federal court in California.

This resulted and Rivos bringing a lawsuit against each other to the U.S. Federal District Court for the Northern District of California that they had “signed an agreement that could potentially settle the case,” and that the agreement allows to examine Rivos’ systems in order to recover any confidential information in them.

Representatives and Rivos did not immediately respond to requests for further information regarding the settlement in response to requests for comment and further information. Rivos is a startup which provides “stealth” technology that filed a lawsuit against in 2022.

According to the company, Rivos, of Mountain View, California, hired dozens of its engineers and used the company’s confidential information to develop competing “systems on chips” (SoCs).

In computing, an integrated circuit or SoC is a chip that contains a large number of components, including a central processing unit and a graphics processing unit, all of which are integrated on the same chip.

In the lawsuit, Apple is alleged to have spent billions of dollars over a decade developing its SoC designs. These designs have revolutionized the world of mobile and personal computing as we know it today.

In response to these allegations, Rivos stated that had “sought to punish Rivos and any Apple employees who might seek employment there since learned of the promising startup.”

Apple countersued last year for unfair competition. Last month, Apple settled claims against six former employees who joined Rivos after leaving Apple.
