Thailand Has Reported 6 New Cases Involving The Omicron XBB.1.16 Subvariant

(CTN News) – The Omicron XBB.1.16 subvariant has been found in six new cases in Thailand, according to a report from the Department of Medical Sciences on Tuesday. Another patient has the related XBB.1.16.1 subvariant.

Supakit Sirilak, director-general of the department, reports that this puts the total number of XBB.1.16 cases in the kingdom up to 34.

9.8% of all new cases discovered so far this week are caused by Omicron XBB.1.16

In addition, he confirmed that a migrant worker who passed away on April 17 in Bangkok’s Sathon district had the XBB.1.16.1 virus, but he claimed there was no need for concern.

Don’t become alarmed about the XBB.1.16 outbreak, he said. Because the individual had never gotten a Covid-19 immunisation.

One of the factors that contributed to his demise, it is plausible that any of the strains could have had the same effect in his situation.

Yesterday, authorities revealed two more deaths caused by COVID-19.

Phakin Charoenjit, 52, was discovered dead on his bed in his room at the Chokchai Ruammit Condominiums in Chatuchak district at 7.33 am, according to Pol Lt Watcharakorn Srisawang, deputy inspector of Sutthisan police in Bangkok.

Before discovering his dead the next morning, the deceased’s wife informed authorities she had last seen him late on Monday night.

Meanwhile, at 8am, Nong Chok district police deputy inspector Pol Capt Suwat Deeponngam received word that the body of Nawin Chaowarak, 22, had been discovered in the man’s room at an apartment on Sakun Di Road.
