(CTN News) – The authorities informed the BBC that a para-athlete and ex-soldier from Thailand murdered his bride and three others on their wedding day before taking his own life.
Saturday saw the marriage of 29-year-old Thai groom Chaturong Suksuk and 44-year-old bride Kanchana Pachunthuek in northeastern Thailand.
The man reportedly shot his wife, her mother, who was 62 years old, and her sister, who was 38 years old, after leaving the wedding celebration suddenly and returning with a gun.
Both guests were transported to the hospital after being struck by stray gunshots. They lost one person.
Officials informed the BBC Although Chaturong “was quite intoxicated at the time,” his true motivation is still concealed. Last year, he lawfully purchased the firearm and ammunition, they said.
According to Thai media, the pair got into an argument at the celebration, as reported by the police from accounts given by partygoers. Also mentioned was Chaturong’s insecurity stemming from the age difference between him and Kanchana.
Police, however, insisted that this was all conjecture and that they planned to close the case “soon” after corroboration.
According to Thai media, Chaturong and Kanchana cohabitated for three years before to their marriage.
Chaturong won silver in the swimming event at last year’s Asean Para Games in Indonesia. According to rumours, he is also scheduled to compete in next month’s World Abilitysport Games in Thailand.
He was serving as a border patroller for Thailand’s paramilitary light infantry group when he tragically lost his right leg.
Gun ownership is prevalent in Thailand, despite the rarity of mass shootings.
A gunshot at a Bangkok posh mall killed three people last month. And in October 2022, a daycare in northeastern Thailand was attacked by a former policeman, who used guns and knives to kill 37 children.
