Thai Customs Bust American Smuggling 1.1Kg of Heroin
Thai Customs Department has arrested an American man at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport after a customs officers discovered 1.1 kilograms of heroin stashed within perfume bottles.
Thai Customs Department spokesperson Phantong Loykulnanta reported on Saturday that Thai Customs and police investigators inspected the man’s baggage after the American was suspected of trafficking narcotics from the UK.
According to Thai Customs, the American was going from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
A search turned up 1.1 kilograms of heroin disguised in perfume bottles. The narcotics were worth an estimated 3.3 million baht.
The American man was turned up to the Airport Interdiction Task Force for additional screening.
The Thai Customs spokesperson further said that this case is an offense according to Section 242 and Section 252 in conjunction with Section 166 and Section 167 of the Customs Act 2017 and the Narcotics Code.
The Customs Department claimed that between October 1 of last year and February 15, its agents made 59 narcotics arrests, confiscating drugs worth 342 million baht.
