BANGKOK – Police tracked down a 39-year-old man accused of trying to shoot his ex-wife in the head, but the gun failed to fire after he pulled the trigger several times. A bystander stepped in just in time, and that move likely saved her life.
On March 23, 2026, the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), through the Crime Suppression Division, announced the arrest of the suspect, identified as Weerayut, 39. He was wanted under an arrest warrant issued by the Nakhon Phanom Provincial Court on February 19, 2026, in connection with charges of attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Police officers arrested him on a roadside in front of a rental room across from a restaurant in Nong Pla Lai, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. Investigators said he had fled from Nakhon Phanom and had been hiding there with his new wife.
The case began in January 2026, when the victim, Ms. Wasana, filed a complaint with Si Songkhram Police Station. She told police that her former husband forced his way into a location in Na Duea Subdistrict, Si Songkhram District, Nakhon Phanom, before attacking her.
He reportedly grabbed her by the head, then pointed a handgun at her head at close range.
According to the report, the suspect tried to fire the weapon at her two to three times. However, during the attack, a good Samaritan nearby rushed in and knocked the gun away from the victim’s head. As a result, one round discharged and struck a concrete wall instead. No one was killed or seriously injured.
Police believe the motive came from ongoing conflict after the couple separated. Investigators said the victim had moved on and started a new relationship, and tension between the two had been building for some time.
After the incident, the suspect went into hiding and avoided arrest. Investigators at Si Songkhram Police Station then requested a warrant from the Nakhon Phanom Provincial Court so they could move forward with the case.
Police later followed leads until they learned that Weerayut was staying at a rented room in Bang Lamung, Chonburi. The arrest team went to the area and kept watch around the property.
When the suspect appeared outside the room, officers moved in, identified themselves, and checked his identity. They confirmed he was the man named in the warrant and took him into custody. He was then handed over to investigators at Si Songkhram Police Station in Nakhon Phanom for legal action.
