Gaza Ceasefire, Palestinian Statehood Call From China
(CTN News) – As the Israel-Hamas war enters its 100th day, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for a ceasefire in Gaza and the establishment of a Palestinian state.
Chinese diplomats held a press conference in Cairo with their Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry, in which they stressed the importance of insisting that an independent, sovereign state of Palestine with eastern Jerusalem as its capital be established within the borders of 1967.
Two ministers released a joint statement in which they stated that all acts of violence, killing, and targeting of civilians and civilian facilities must cease immediately and all acts of violence, killing, and targeting of civilians must be halted.
AFP reported that about Gaza 1,140 people were killed in the attack, most of them civilians, when Israel launched an intense military campaign in response to Hamas’ deadly attack on southern Israel on October 7.
There have been at least 23,968 deaths in Gaza, primarily women and children, according to the health ministry in the defeated Hamas-ruled region.
In addition to their call for an international summit for peace, Shoukry and Wang also advocated for the establishment of a Palestinian state that is independent, contiguous, and just.
Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank,
The seat of the Palestinian Authority, are separated by Israeli territory, which is part of the Gaza Strip. After the 1967 Six-Day Gaza War, Israel was able to capture both territories as a result of its victory.
The Chinese President Xi Jinping has previously called for an “international peace conference” to resolve the conflict.
The Chinese government has historically supported a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and has historically sympathized with the Palestinian cause.
Currently, Wang is on an African tour that will take him to Togo, Tunisia, and the Ivory Coast.
