(CTN News) – David Letterman visited Manhattan’s Ed Sullivan Theater last night for the first time since leaving CBS’s “Late Show” 8 long ago and had a never-before-seen conversation with his successor, Stephen Colbert.
Of course, the two heavyweight champions of the night talked about most of the other heavyweight champions of the night more than anything else.
Colbert said he was a friend of Dick Cavett and sometimes asked David Letterman for advice on whether he felt the same way as his saintly figure, Johnny Carson.
After a minute,
David Letterman shook his head.
“Johnny is Olympus. So I called Johnny and said, ‘Johnny, what do you think?’ Should we do that? Johnny, what color do you mean? No, that’s fair. “I noticed that a vagrant was emerging from the world of conversation.”
When the crowd responded with “classroom” and “ah,” David Letterman quickly returned to his original position. “I don’t like insults.”
When Colbert asked if he missed anything about the night world, David Letterman answered honestly. “Everything is nostalgic,” he said. “Overall it’s fun.
I can’t say anything about it, but if I’m wrong I’ll try again in 24 hours. And it’s an incredible instrument.
