CHIANG MAI – More than 30 Thai and Expats gathered outside the US Consulate in Chiang Mai to protest the war and call for peace. The group, identifying itself as CNX4PEACE, held signs in both Thai and English to voice opposition to military action and rising global conflict.
Police from Mae Ping Police Station and consulate security staff were present to keep the area orderly during the gathering. According to a statement from CNX4PEACE, the group includes Americans, Thais, and peace supporters from several countries who came together with a shared goal to support peace and reject war.
They said the rally in Chiang Mai was part of a wider global movement taking place on the same day, with concerned citizens joining actions in more than 3,000 locations around the world.
The group called on the US government to stop what it described as an abuse of power and return to the democratic values the country has long claimed to uphold.
In its statement, CNX4PEACE argued that military action against Iran had begun without legal legitimacy, without approval from Congress, and without a clear explanation to the public. They also said there had been no honest assessment of the global consequences and no clear objective.
As a result, the group said these actions are damaging the image of the United States as a country that stands for democracy.
CNX4PEACE also accused the US of acting as an aggressor by relying on its large military and economic power while following the idea that might makes right. In their view, this approach reflects an imperial attitude and risks making an already dangerous situation worse.
They warned that if the conflict drags on, the effects could spread far beyond the region. Higher oil prices, they said, may trigger a global economic slowdown and place even more pressure on people already struggling with poverty.
That impact would not be limited to one area, but would also affect countries like Thailand, which has long maintained close ties with the United States.
The group said it was deeply troubled by the direction of US policy. It urged Washington to stop prioritizing bombing, invasion, killing, and violations of international law over peaceful dialogue and diplomatic solutions.
In addition, CNX4PEACE called on governments around the world to focus on peace-building and shared agreement, so that human rights are respected in a real and meaningful way. Their message was simple and direct, they want peace, not war.
