BANGKOK – Immigration Bureau officers and Interpol arrested a high-profile Canadian fugitive at Suvarnabhumi Airport on Thursday as he attempted to flee the country. The suspect, identified as Mr. NG Wesley, is an alleged key figure in an international narcotics syndicate wanted by South Korean authorities and Interpol for smuggling large quantities of MDMA (Ecstasy).
The arrest took place while Wesley was queuing at a check-in counter to board a flight to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Under the direct orders of Pol. Maj. Gen. Songprot Sirisukha, Commander of Immigration Division 3, a specialized task force, moved in to apprehend the suspect.
According to the Thairath, despite the crowded departure hall, officers successfully intercepted the 32-year-old Canadian national. A thorough search of his person and luggage followed. While authorities did not find illegal substances during the immediate search, his identity was confirmed against an Interpol Red Notice.
Investigation records reveal that Wesley had been living under the radar in Pattaya. He entered Thailand on April 18, 2026, using a standard tourist visa and moved into a rented house in the coastal city.
According to Pol. Col. Suriya Puangsomba, Superintendent of Investigation for Immigration Division 3, Wesley, held a significant role in a global drug network. His primary responsibility involved managing the logistics and international shipping of synthetic drugs.
“The suspect acted as a coordinator for the distribution of MDMA on an international scale,” Pol. Col. Suriya stated. “We acted quickly once we received intelligence that he was preparing to leave Thailand for Malaysia.”
The case against Wesley dates back to September 2017. South Korean investigators found that he allegedly orchestrated the shipment of 20,000 MDMA pills. These drugs were sent via an international parcel delivery service to a recipient in Busan, South Korea.
Following that seizure, South Korean authorities issued an arrest warrant for “International Narcotics Smuggling.” When Wesley fled the country, Interpol issued a Red Notice, alerting law enforcement agencies worldwide to his status as a wanted criminal.
Legal Procedures and Extradition
Thai immigration officials have revoked Wesley’s visa following his arrest. He is currently being held at an Immigration Bureau detention facility.
