'Disrespectful' Elle King Faces Backlash For Being 'Hammered' On Stage By Dolly Parton

(CTN News) – Elle King is facing major criticism following her actions at the Opry Goes Dolly tribute show at the Ryman Auditorium in honor of Dolly Parton’s 78th birthday.

She stirred up concern among fans on Jan. 19 when she appeared on stage. Within minutes of taking the stage, she told the audience she had been “hammered.”

One audience member commented, “We’re celebrating Dolly’s birthday with the bottle,” as King gave an impression of Parton, who wasn’t present at the show. She informed the audience that she would not be able to recall the lyrics to Parton’s song “Marry Me” later on.

In addition to reporting the incident, Country Minute also mentioned Elle King’s performance at New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash of her song “Drunk (And I Don’t Want To Go Home)”, which led one viewer to comment,

“I wish I felt as good as Elle King is right now.”.

It has been noted that some fans found King’s actions at the Opry Goes Dolly show inappropriate, as one person responded, “I am disappointed in the Opry for their failure to honour the great Dolly Parton by allowing such a drunken and disrespectful performance.”

Many others said King was disrespectful, commenting on things like, “That was painful,” or, “The cussing at the grand ole opry was bad enough, but the disrespect directed towards Dolly made it worse.”

Fans expressed concern for her, saying things like, “I’ve been following her for years. This is so sad. Heartbreak will lead you to lose yourself this way for sure,” despite the fact that she has previously talked about her struggles with addiction.

According to reports, Elle King separated from her fiancé Dan Tooker last year, but has not confirmed the split.

After King’s behavior at the Jan. 19 show, an upset fan contacted the Grand Ole Opry’s social media account. They apologized for the language used during last night’s Opry performance.

In the opinion of some fans, Elle King should be banned from the Grand Ole Opry because of her language and behavior. Elle King has not yet responded to the backlash publicly.
