BANGKOK – Police and rescue workers were called to a home in Pathum Thani yesterday after a man attacked his wife’s family after they found out he had been secretly messaging his 13-year-old sister-in-law.

The incident began when relatives and his wife arranged to meet and resolve the situation after learning about his inappropriate communication.  Feeling cornered, the man drove a lorry to the family’s house, where he opened fire, killing his mother-in-law and seriously injuring three others before taking his own life in his vehicle.

On 3 September 2025, Police Lieutenant Patchthanaphon Ratchatharakan from Khlong Ha Police Station responded to reports of a shooting with multiple victims at house number 25/6, Moo 7, Soi Chalerm Phrakiat 2, Thanya-Wang Noi Road, Khlong Chet Subdistrict, Khlong Luang District in Pathum Thani.

Police arrived at the scene with the local investigation team, patrol officers, forensic staff, paramedics from Thanyaburi Hospital, and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation. The house was a single-storey concrete home.

At the back, there was a marble table set up in the open air with leftover beer bottles and side dishes. Near the table, officers found the body of Ms. Thassanee Odsawat, 46, who was shot three times in the left side of the chest.

Close by, rescuers found Mr. Chaiwat Odsawat, 43, the younger brother of the deceased woman, with a gunshot wound to the head. He was alive but in critical condition. Paramedics gave first aid and rushed him to Thanyaburi Hospital.

Inside the house, police found a 13-year-old girl, Wanphen Sarimarun, with a gunshot wound to the head. She was barely breathing, and rescue workers immediately provided first aid before she was taken to the hospital. A toddler, estimated to be three or four years old, was found sleeping in a cradle nearby, unharmed.

There was one more victim, Mr. Anurak Kaewsakunnee, an administrative officer from Khlong Chet subdistrict. He had been shot three times, with injuries to the head, arm, and leg. Emergency workers transferred him to Khlong Luang Hospital in serious condition.

In front of the house, police discovered a blue 22-wheel Isuzu truck, registration 72-9639 Nakhon Pathom, used for soil transport. In the driver’s seat, officers found the body of Mr. Kiattisak (Noom) Kirirum, 35, with a gunshot wound near his left ear. On the floor of the vehicle was a 9mm modified pistol, which officers collected as evidence.

Forensic teams collected five spent .380 cartridges outside a room, two more inside, and found an additional 18 rounds of unused .380 ammunition in a box with a pistol holster.

Ms. Nanthaphat Sapyai, 26, wife of the attacker, explained that she and her family became aware of her husband’s inappropriate conversations with her younger sister, but had no solid proof. They planned to discuss the problem with him at his brother’s house in Bang Pa-in.

However, he refused to meet inside the house, so she waited there while her mother, uncle, and younger sister returned to the family home first. She later received a call from her husband, who told her to come home to see their child, as he had shot everyone present.

She then heard another gunshot during the call. She raced home to find her mother, uncle, and younger sister all shot, with Mr. Anurak, a regular visitor, also injured. Her husband had shot himself dead in the parked lorry.

Police continued collecting evidence and planned to interview family members and witnesses to determine the full story. The deceased were taken to Thammasat University Hospital as heavy rain fell at the scene.
