The Governor of Chiang Rai has advised people to be vigilant about flooding and ordered all agencies to monitor the situation and urgently help affected people in all areas. He emphasizes that people should immediately call the 1784 emergency hotline for help.

Mr. Putthipong Sirimat told a press briefing that the continuous heavy rain in the upper northern region has caused a large amount of water to flow into Chiang Rai Province, resulting in flash floods and landslides covering five districts, eight sub-districts, and fifteen villages.

Approximately 51 households and approximately 200 rai of agricultural land have been affected.

Therefore, relevant agencies have been ordered to proceed with the emergency response plan and mobilize all forces to bring officials to help move belongings from people’s homes and care for affected people to the best of their ability.

He has also warned the public through all channels to prepare for the heavy rain that may continue to fall and to provide assistance. Ready to report to the province at every stage until the situation returns to normal.

Mr. Phuttiphong said a survey of the affected areas found that the areas of Chiang Rai Province affected by the flash flood and landslide situation include “Mae Sai District” and Mae Sai Subdistrict.

At approximately 03.00 a.m., the level of the Sai River rose, and water overflowed the banks and flooded the houses of people in Villages 1, 7 and 10, approximately 50 households.

The district and local administrative organizations closely monitor the water level and warn people to move their belongings to higher ground. Meanwhile, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation’s warning tower at Ban Ko Sai has warned people to prepare to evacuate.

The local administrative organizations have installed water barriers, pumped out water, and provided sandbags to block important areas. At 3.00 p.m., the water level has decreased slightly.

In Tambon Ko Chang, Villages 6, 9 and 12, approximately 200 rai of agricultural land have been affected. The Ko Chang Subdistrict Administrative Organization is surveying the damage and preparing to assist. In “Mae Chan District,” Mae Chan Subdistrict, Village No. 5, a landslide still blocks the village road at one point.

The Mae Chan Subdistrict Administrative Organization has expedited the excavation and adjustment of the soil to open the road.

In the “Mae Suai District”, Mae Suai Subdistrict, Pa Daet Subdistrict, and Tha Ko Subdistrict, an electric pole fell, and a landslide damaged a house and 1 house.

Initially, the Mae Suai Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand resolved the problem. The Tha Ko Subdistrict Administrative Organization surveyed the damage and assisted. In “Wiang Kaen District,” Por Subdistrict, Village No. 2 and Village No. 21, the water is overflowing the banks.

Floods Chiang Rai

People in the area are preparing to move their belongings. The district and local administrative organizations are preparing to closely monitor the water level and warn people to move their belongings to higher ground as soon as possible.

A landslide blocked the village road in Mae Fah Luang District, Mae Fah Luang Subdistrict. Mrs. Phuttiphong added that the Mae Fah Luang Subdistrict Administrative Organization has excavated and adjusted the soil to open the road.

Mr. Phuttiphong continued that to help people at this time, the Chiang Rai Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command has collaborated with all sectors, including the military.

Local administrative organizations, rescue volunteers, volunteer citizens, and relevant agencies are urgently providing assistance, moving belongings, and caring for the affected people.

They have also set up warning signs and arranged for officers to facilitate along flooded and landslide-prone areas. Measures for managing the situation have been implemented, including assigning district chiefs of every district to continuously monitor and follow the flash floods, forest runoff, and overflowing rivers.

All sectors in the province must prepare equipment, machinery, military equipment, and personnel to provide immediate assistance 24 hours a day when requested.

They must also urgently survey the damage and assist those affected.

In addition, the Chiang Rai Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command Center has been periodically assessing the flood situation in the area, using weather forecasts, rainfall in the area, and the amount of water retained on the ground to prepare for and provide timely assistance to the people.
