(CTN News) – Black Friday Small Business and Cyber Monday are widely recognized as two of the most significant shopping days in the United States, attracting both consumers and businesses alike.
However, there is another shopping holiday that deserves attention: Small Business Saturday.
Established in 2010 by American Express and officially supported by the United States Business Administration (SBA) in 2011, Small Business Saturday takes place on the Saturday following Thanksgiving and directly follows Black Friday.
This day has become an essential component of small businesses’ busiest time of the year.
As per the SBA, there exist approximately 32 million independent businesses in the United States. The 2022 Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey conducted by American Express reveals that consumers spent an estimated $17.9 billion on Business Saturday in 2022.
On a local level, county officials state that there are over 244,000 businesses in L.A. County, with a higher number of minority- and woman-owned businesses compared to any other county in the country.
On Saturday, KTLA 5’s Erin Myers paid a visit to various small businesses in the Larchmont Village neighborhood of Los Angeles, including WITTMORE, a men’s clothing line that will be celebrating their 10th anniversary in 2023.
According to WITTMORE founder Paul Witt, their brick-and-mortar store situated on Larchmont Boulevard has been operational for a year and a half, and it plays a crucial role in their success during Small Business Saturday and beyond.
Witt emphasized the importance of supporting Business Saturday and promoting it as part of the holiday season. He also highlighted the significance of Main Streets across the United States and encouraged people to come out and support them during this time.
Witt emphasized that WITTMORE encompasses over 20 global brands, enabling his company to broaden their influence and support a greater number of independent creators.
