(CTN News) – Jeff Bezos, the founder of e-commerce behemoth Amazon, has revealed the rationale behind his departure from the position of CEO of the company two years ago.

This unexpected move took the world by surprise, and Jeff Bezos has now disclosed his motivations during a recent episode of the Lex Fridman Podcast.

According to Jeff Bezos, his unwavering dedication to his space exploration venture, Blue Origin, played a pivotal role in his decision to retire.

In elucidating his choice to step away from the CEO role at Amazon, which he established back in 1994, the billionaire emphasized the necessity for his space endeavor to progress at an accelerated pace. He acknowledged that managing both Blue Origin and Amazon simultaneously would hinder the desired growth of his space venture.

“Blue Origin must advance at a much swifter rate. This is one of the key factors that prompted my departure as the CEO of Amazon a couple of years ago. I felt compelled to focus my attention on Blue Origin at this crucial juncture,” Jeff Bezos stated.

During my tenure as the CEO of Amazon, I held a strong belief that as the leader of a publicly traded company, it was my responsibility to give it my undivided attention.

This mindset was of utmost importance to me, as I felt obligated to all the stakeholders at Amazon. However, after stepping down from the CEO Jeff Bezos position and assuming the role of executive chair, I decided to dedicate my time to Blue Origin.

This transition allowed me to infuse a renewed sense of energy and urgency into the company, emphasizing the need for accelerated progress.

In a recent conversation with Mr. Fridman, I discussed the work I am currently undertaking at Blue Origin, which I founded in 2000.

I expressed my unwavering commitment and the immense satisfaction I derive from my involvement in the company over the past few years.

However, I also acknowledged that there are challenging days that accompany this endeavor. Despite the difficulties, I find great joy in both the grand vision and the smaller details, despite the frustrations that may arise.

Blue Origin is renowned for its development of three remarkable space vehicles: New Shepard, New Glenn, and Blue Moon.
