Tally Says Tesla Has 2 Million Cybertruck Reservations

(CTN News) – Based on a customer count, Tesla may have as many as 2 million Cybertruck reservations ahead of the production launch in the coming months.

As you look at social media and the comments that have been left on recent sightings of the Cybertruck, you might get the impression that quite a few people aren’t happy with how the electric pickup truck looks, and that’s certainly the case.

There is a polarizing design on the Tesla Cybertruck that is hated by many, but a high number of reservations for the truck proves that it is also loved by many, as is evident from the large number of reservations it has received.

Even though the vehicle’s premiere in 2019 wasn’t without its issues, with the unbreakable window demonstration failing to meet expectations, it did help generate a lot of attention for the vehicle. Within one week after Elon Musk unveiled the Cybertruck, the company’s CEO announced that Tesla had received over 250,000 reservations for the vehicle.

After an unveiling, Tesla usually receives a lot of reservations early on, and then things slow down after that. However, that wasn’t the case with the Cybertruck, which made it stand out from the crowd.

As a matter of fact, insider sources told Electrek that even amidst the pandemic, some Tesla stores were receiving hundreds of Cybertruck reservations each week and that pre-orders even helped boost sales of other Tesla models during the time of the pandemic.

By the end of 2021, more than 1 million Cybertruck units were pre-ordered via a crowdsourced reservation system.

The total number of Cybertruck reservations has now reached over 2 million, based on the latest statistics, which include over 47,000 self-reported reservations.

There is only a $100 refundable deposit required now in order to “reserve” the Cybertruck, which is not a very large show of interest and is a much lower cost of entry than the previous Tesla launches. Even if the Cybertruck took 30% of the market share, that would quickly make it one of the world’s best-selling pickups, even if it only took 20%.

In addition, the mix of reservations shows that the majority of potential buyers would be interested in the dual-motor and tri-motor versions of the electric pickup truck when it comes to their purchase.

As an interesting side note, it’s also interesting to realize that those reservations are taking place even before we know the final price and configurations of the Cybertruck, which Tesla won’t be able to share until an upcoming delivery event has been organized.

In the near future, Tesla is expected to announce a date for the highly-anticipated start of the delivery of Cybertrucks, which has been highly anticipated for months.
