Boy 12, Sings on Facebook Live to Raise Money for Father Funeral
On Facebook Live, a 12-year-old boy in Bangkok performed music to raise money for the funeral expenses of his father, who died of cancer earlier this month.
As a street musician since the age of five, Chanadej “Nong Gun” Khiewsen used the money he earned to pay for his education.
As a child, he had two elder brothers and one elder sister, all raised by his single father, Chatchai Khiewsen. The 12-year-old wished to aid his father, who was doing his best to raise the four children.
When Nong Gun learned that his father had stage four cancer, he performed live on Facebook Live to help him care for him and raise money for medical expenses.
On Feb. 4, his father passed away from the disease. The cremation took place at the Charoen Thammaram temple in Bangkok’s Sai Mai district on Feb 14.
After the death of his father, Nong Gun appeared live on Facebook Live in order to raise money for the funeral expenses.
I never wanted to experience this day, but my father taught me to live in the real world,” Nong Gun said before playing an instrumental version of a Thai pop song while trying to hold back his tears.
On the day after his father’s cremation, Noong Gun’s bank account for receiving donations was closed. Those who donated and offered their support were thanked.
