CHIANG RAI – The Meteorological Department advises that in the next 72 hours, thunderstorms and heavy rain will continue in parts of northern, northeastern, and western coastal regions of southern Thailand.
People in areas like Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and Nan should stay alert for possible dangers caused by heavy rainfall and water accumulation. Flash floods or landslides could happen, especially near hillsides, rivers, and in low-lying places.
A monsoon trough is moving across the upper north into a low-pressure area over Laos and northern Vietnam. At the same time, a moderate southwesterly monsoon is covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
Storms in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand remain steady, with waves in the upper Andaman Sea reaching about 2 metres. The upper Gulf of Thailand and lower Andaman Sea can expect waves between 1 and 2 metres.
Areas with thunderstorms may see waves above 2 metres. All boat operators should take extra care, especially in storm-affected areas, and avoid going out to sea during heavy storms.
The Royal Irrigation Department has put out a warning for 33 provinces to watch for flash floods, landslides, flooding, and high river levels from 30 August to 3 September.
