A Lucky Powerball Player Wins $2 Million For Christmas.

(CTN News) – A fortunate Powerball individual who purchased a lottery ticket in Orange County has emerged as the recipient of what lottery officials have referred to as a $2.08-million “Christmas present.”

The Powerball ticket, which was sold at the Donut Storr in Anaheim, successfully matched five out of six numbers but unfortunately missed the Powerball.

During the Monday night drawing, there were no winners of the jackpot. As a result, the jackpot has now accumulated to an estimated $685 million for the upcoming drawing on Wednesday night.

According to a news release from Powerball, this marks the fourth time this year that the Powerball jackpot has surpassed half a billion dollars. The previous occasion was on October 11th, when a player from California won a grand prize of $1.765 billion.

The news release also states that there have been 32 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner since then.

In the previous year, an Altadena gas station sold a ticket that resulted in the largest Powerball jackpot in history: $2.04 billion.

The fortunate winner, who opted for the lump sum prize, used the funds to purchase a $25.5-million Hollywood Hills home and a $4-million Altadena mansion, both in March.

If a ticket matches all five numbers and the Powerball on Wednesday, the winner will have a choice to make. They can either receive a lump sum payment of approximately $344.7 million or opt for an annuitized prize of around $685 million. It is important to note that both of these amounts are before taxes are taken out.

Officials state that the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
