Police Seize Over 2 Million Meth Pills in Chiang Rai Province

The police in Chiang Rai province have arrested four members of a drug-smuggling gang for seizing more than 1 million methamphetamines pills from a cargo truck.

On Wednesday, a team of drug suppression officers and local police, and soldiers stopped an enclosed 18-wheeler with Samut Prakan license plates for a search at a checkpoint in the Mae Lao district of Chiang Rai around 8 am.

Meanwhile, the Mae Fah Luang Police Station, Chiang Rai Province reported the seizure of 11 boxes of methamphetamines, totaling about 1,100,000 tablets after integrated inspections on 4 private transport companies in the Mae Fah Luang district.

A police spokesperson told CTN News that there has been an integration of news between border defense agencies.

Narcotics suppression officers and the Chiang Rai Provincial Police found that a drug trafficking group was attempting to smuggle methamphetamines from neighboring countries into Thailand in the area of ​​Mae Fah Luang District, Mae Sai District, and Chiang Saen District of Chiang Rai.

The drugs were to be transported to the inner part but joint forces working together to prevent smuggling of drugs from entering the inner layer of the country intercepted the drug shipments and arrested the drug smugglers in the border areas.

The arrest occurred at about 11.30 am on March 15th, by the Office of the Administrative Office of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, together with the NESDB 3 and the administrative department of Mae Fah Luang District.

The joint task force inspected parcels of private transport companies In the area and at the 4th transport station in the ​​Thoet Thai Subdistrict, Mae Fah Luang District, in Chiang Rai Province, parcels were inspected with a handheld X-ray machine.

Authorities found 11 suspicious parcel boxes, approximately 12 kilograms each. The team found 1.1 million methamphetamine pills.

The parcels were seized and authorities are now searching for the sender and recipient of the parcels.

Major General Narit Thawornwong, commander of Pha Muang Forces and the director of the Pha Muang Forces Narcotics Prevention and Suppression Center has ordered the units in the area to continue to strengthen the interception and suppression of drugs.
