Massive Earthquake Strikes in Pakistan

(CTN News) – A 4.9 magnitude earthquake was reported in Islamabad and the surrounding areas on Saturday evening, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

According to the PMD, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 142 kilometres, located in the Hindu Kush region, which was the quake’s epicentre.

According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, the earthquake occurred at 10:44pm Pacific Standard Time (PST).

As reported by Dawn News, the quakes were felt in Peshawar, Swat, Chitral, Lower Di and their surrounding areas.

The country was jolted by an earthquake of 6.0 magnitude last month. The tremors were triggered by a powerful earthquake that struck northeastern Afghanistan, shaking buildings in the capital, Kabul and Islamabad.

A strong earthquake was felt in Lahore and the surrounding areas around 2:30pm, but no reports of casualties or financial losses have yet been reported from other parts of Punjab.

At a depth of 213km, the earthquake‘s epicentre was located in the Hindu Kush region. Its longitude and latitude were 70.63 East and 36.16 North, respectively.
