At about 3:00 p.m. on July 7, 2026, Pol. Lt. Veeraphong Roopsuai, deputy investigation officer at Bang Phli Police Station, received a report that a foreign man had gone into a lake inside a luxury housing estate in Bang Phli District. Police, a doctor from Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital, and rescue workers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation rushed to the scene.
Behind the luxury house was a large lake. Divers searched the area and later found the body of Connor Murphy, 32, an American national, lying near the edge of the lake about 20 meters from shore. Rescuers brought the body out for examination. Police said they found no signs of physical assault and sent the body to Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital for a full autopsy.
A video recorded by a female staff member at the housing estate showed the man suddenly acting erratically for reasons that were not clear. He then ran into the lake and tried to swim, but he ran out of strength and disappeared in front of witnesses.
No one jumped in to help because the water was more than 10 meters deep. Staff members immediately called for emergency assistance. Rescue divers spent about 30 minutes searching before they found the body and brought it ashore.

Security Guard Describes the Man’s Behavior
A security guard at the estate said Connor Murphy returned from outside in a hired car and stopped at the guard booth. He handed the driver 1,000 baht, but the driver refused to take him further because he already seemed unwell.
The man then approached a resident’s car that was passing by and knocked on the window, trying to get a ride inside the estate. The guard shouted, “Don’t let him get in the car.” After that, the man became more aggressive, shouty, and rolled on the road. He then raised his hands as if praying.
When a patrol officer arrived, the man saw the police and ran into the estate. He then jumped into the lake and started swimming. Police requested backup and rescue support because they could not control him. He kept swimming until he was exhausted and went under.
The man’s girlfriend, a 22-year-old woman identified as Ms. B, said they had been together for about three years. They had lived apart for a period because their lives were not working out, but they had been living together again for less than three months.
She said Murphy seemed normal before the incident and had not shown any problems or unusual signs. She said the strange behavior only happened on the day of the incident, and she did not know why. She also said she did not see him using drugs while they were together.
She added that the damage inside the house happened late at night while she was sleeping in the room. He, however, refused to sleep.

Homeowner Finds the House Ruined
The homeowner, Ms. W, said she was shocked when she arrived and saw the condition of the property. She said the house had been covered in paint from end to end, including electrical appliances.
She said she loved the house because it was beautiful and sat next to the lake. The property is now worth 22 million baht, and she had rented it out for 35,000 baht per month. The tenant had only been there for three months.
Even though she had screened the renter, she said she never expected to see the house in that condition. Furniture and decorations were also badly damaged.
Investigators from Bang Phli Police Station searched the house and the deceased man’s car. They found two unused syringes on the front seat on the driver’s side. Officers also found several white pills of unknown type in his waist bag.
Police, a forensic doctor from Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital, and rescue workers carried out a preliminary examination of the body. They found injuries on the body that were believed to have come from rolling on the road.
The body will be sent for a full autopsy to confirm the cause of death and to check for drugs in the system. Police are also collecting evidence and will coordinate with the U.S. Embassy in Thailand to report the case.
