KAMPHAENG PHET – A heated argument turned deadly after a brief encounter in a parking lot, after a 27-year-old man got into a fight with two brothers over a glance exchanged while parking.
The argument quickly escalated, with one side grabbing a hammer and stick and the other swinging a metal umbrella stand. The fight ended in violence when a knife was drawn, resulting in the death of the older brother (aged 53) and leaving the younger brother (44) seriously injured.
On Thursday, Pol. Lt. Yutthana Puksuk from Khlong Khlung Police Station in Kamphaeng Phet received a report of a fight involving knives, with two people injured. He went to the scene along with rescue workers at the Khong Wilai bend.
The incident took place at the intersection of Klong Wilai-Pang Silathong Road, Village 4, Khlong Khlung Subdistrict, near Baan Ya Resort.
After the attack, locals rushed the two injured men to Khlong Khlung Hospital. Police identified the deceased as Mr. Komkrit Deepree (aged 53), who died on the way to the hospital. His brother, Mr. Niwat Deepree (aged 44), suffered severe injuries.
The suspect, named Mr. Kriangkrai Jaikwang (aged 27), drove away from the scene in a pickup truck. Police later arrested him at his home and took him in for questioning. He told police the incident started when the victim parked in front of the resort and stared at him.
He asked why he was being stared at, which led to an argument. The situation escalated as they drove after each other before the fight broke out. Mr. Kriangkrai said he had never had issues with the brothers before, only recognized them from the village, and simply wanted to know why he was being looked at.
Security footage from the village showed Mr. Komkrit arriving on his motorbike to check his fish pond, which was next to Baan Ya Resort. At the same time, Mr. Kriangkrai drove his pickup into the resort. Mr. Komkrit’s vehicle was stopped out front. An argument began right there.
It was at that moment that Mr. Niwat, Komkrit’s brother, walked out as well. Mr. Kriangkrai moved his pickup near the intersection, got out, and the quarrel continued with both brothers. Mr. Komkrit was seen holding a stick and a hammer, while Mr. Kriangkrai responded by throwing a metal umbrella pole at them.
The chase continued to the main intersection, where Mr. Kriangkrai used a pocketknife to stab Mr. Komkrit in the left side of his stomach, then stabbed Mr. Niwat in the neck, leaving him badly hurt and lying in blood by the roadside.
Locals ran to the scene to break up the fight. Mr. Komkrit walked back to the original spot, pressing a hand to his wound. Mr. Kriangkrai got in his truck and fled. Mr. Komkrit died before reaching the hospital. Mr. Niwat remains in critical condition.
Mrs. Somphot, aged 70, witnessed the incident. She said the brothers chased their attacker out to the intersection, and the stabbing occurred during the struggle. After that, neighbours took both injured men to the hospital. She only heard loud arguing but was unsure what started it.
Mr. Siamrat, aged 55, helped stop the fight and took the brothers to the hospital. He said he was collecting butterfly pea flowers by his house when he heard shouting. He ran to help, yelled at the men to stop, and managed to snatch away the knife and stick they were using.
