Amazon's New Hires From IITs And IIMs Won't Start Until Later

(CTN News) – In a report published by Business Today, Amazon has announced it has postponed the joining dates of several new hires from IITs and IIMs after firing thousands of employees during the past few months.

The publication has exclusively spoken to students from IITs and IIMs who have been denied offers from Amazon due to their academic achievements.

A large number of employees have been removed by the tech giant since the company fired more than 18000 employees earlier this year.

Having dealt with the issue of overhiring, Amazon has now decided to focus on reducing costs and increasing the revenue of the company in order to deal with the issue of overhiring.

It was reported to BT by a recent IIT Bombay graduate that he had been hired as a Software Development Engineer but that his offer letter had been deferred to January of this year.

It was my luck that I was recruited at Amazon at SDE-1 with a CTC of around 30 LPA. After I got an email from HR stating that the offer has been deferred, I was notified that I would not be joining the company in June. In January, I will be joining the company for the next time.

IITs are all experiencing this problem across the board. My knowledge is that there are a few other students from other campuses who have interned with me, and their offer letters have even been withdrawn,” he added.

It was also noted that the IIT graduate added that he does not feel like waiting until the end of the year to find a job, since six months is too long to be unemployed. Moreover, he said that he would begin looking for new opportunities as soon as possible.

It will reflect poorly on my profile if I wait for six months, and I do not want to do that. There is a tough job market right now, but I have begun to network with alumni and am searching for other opportunities as well,” he noted.

In addition, several people from the NIITs told the publication that their offer letters were deferred as well. In addition, offer letters for NIT students have also been deferred.

The placement cell coordinator of an NIT told the publication that she had noticed that some of the offers had also been revoked.

As part of Amazon’s latest round of layoffs, about 500 employees in India across a variety of departments have been laid off last week.

As part of Andy Jassy’s announcement in March, the company’s CEO announced that the company was going to reduce its workforce by approximately 9,000 people, as part of a broader reduction in workforce announced by Jassy.

This is an important development for Amazon as it joins the ranks of other prominent tech companies like Meta and Google, who have also been streamlining their employee numbers over the past few years.
