CHONBURI – A violent dispute over a motorcycle brake repair ended with a young mechanic seriously injured in Bang Lamung, Chonburi, after he was attacked by a customer with a Samurai Sword.
Police later arrested a 53-year-old man and seized a Samurai Sword believed to be used in the attack. The suspect also admitted to using crystal meth (ice), according to ThaiRath.
Police said the incident began late at night on March 2, around 10:30 p.m. The suspect, identified as Anucha Boonthawon, 53, went to a row-house room in Soi Nong Yai 8, Moo 6, Na Kluea Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District.
There, he confronted Noppharit Saemueang, 24, a motorcycle mechanic. The suspect was upset about a brake pad replacement and claimed the bike still did not brake properly after the repair.
During the conversation, the argument reportedly escalated quickly. Police said the mechanic tried to walk away into his room, but the suspect followed him inside and struck him with the Samurai Sword.
Mechanic Gets 27 Stitches
The mechanic suffered a large cut on the left side of his head and required 27 stitches. The blade also cut his ear, nearly severing it, police said.
Investigators also described another confrontation on March 3, around 8:30 p.m. They said the suspect drove a Nissan NV pickup to the motorcycle repair shop and the living area.
The shop operates on land owned by the suspect, which the victim’s employer rents. Police said the suspect argued with the shop owner while holding the Samurai sword and made threats about shutting the business down and canceling the lease. CCTV footage reportedly captured his actions clearly.
At 4:30 p.m. on March 4, police investigators from Bang Lamung Police Station arrested Anucha and confiscated a samurai sword about 1 meter long. During questioning, he admitted attacking the mechanic, police said.
Attacker Admits to Meth Use
He claimed he was angry because the repair on his son’s motorcycle did not meet expectations. He also alleged the mechanic insulted him during the argument.
The suspect told police he struck the victim with the back of the blade, not the sharp edge. He also admitted to using ice, saying it affected his judgment and self-control. As for the threats about evicting the shop, he said he acted out of anger.
Noppharit said he had never had problems with the suspect before. He explained that they had already talked about the motorcycle repair, so he did not expect the issue to escalate into an attack.
Police said they are preparing charges related to assault causing injury, along with illegal drug use involving a Category 1 narcotic (ice). The case will move forward under legal procedure through investigators.
