Pakistan Bans New Year’s Celebrations in Solidarity with Gaza

(CTN News) – In a show of solidarity with the oppressed Gazan people, caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar stated Thursday that all New Year‘s celebrations will stay banned across the country.

In numerous international venues, Pakistan has denounced Israel’s homicidal activities, which have claimed the lives of thousands of Palestinians, and has spoken out in support of the oppressed Palestinians.

“The Government of Pakistan has decided to ban all celebrations related to New Year’s,” Kakar stated in a televised address, due to the “sad state” of the Pakistani country.

According to Kakar, the situation in the war was disastrous, and he pleaded with all Pakistanis to stand in sympathy with the oppressed Palestinians and practice simplicity as the new year began.

Israeli forces have been persistent in their air and ground offensives against Hamas, destroying large swaths of Gaza and the deaths of 21,320 individuals, the majority of whom were women and children.

The situation in Gaza is dire, and the war has continued for almost a year, with Israeli authorities pledging to keep attacking the territory controlled by Hamas for at least a few more months.

Worldwide, people in Gaza are facing “terrible injuries, acute hunger and […] severe risk of disease,” according to World Health Organization head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Kakar brought attention to the fact that Pakistan has already dispatched two shipments of aid to Gaza and is planning to send a third shortly in an effort to alleviate their suffering in the face of Israel’s devastating onslaught.

He also brought up the fact that Pakistani officials were in touch with their Egyptian and Jordanian colleagues to make sure that all efforts were going toward helping the Palestinians.

New Year’s Functions Banned in Sharjah as UAE Emirate Expresses Solidarity with Gaza

Pakistan has a number of private and public New Year’s Eve parties where families and young people alike can celebrate the arrival of the new year.

On the other hand, injuries and fatalities might also result from careless driving and celebratory gunfire.

Additionally, in solidarity with the Gazan people, the United Arab Emirates emirate of Sharjah has prohibited New Year’s Eve fireworks this year. Sharjah is one of the few Arab states with official links to Israel.

Sharjah police stated on Facebook that the restriction is “a sincere expression of solidarity and humanitarian cooperation with our siblings in the Gaza Strip.”
