PHAYAO – A scary close call shocked shoppers and vendors at a local fresh market in Phayao, Thailand. While workers trimmed a large tree behind the market, it fell the wrong way and crashed into two stalls, including a noodle shop where a vendor was cooking at the time.
On Monday, the incident happened at Ban Tham Fresh Market (Village 2), Ban Tham Subdistrict, Dok Khamtai District, Phayao. A team was cutting and trimming a big tree behind the market area. However, during the job, the tree suddenly tipped in an unexpected direction.

As a result, it slammed into a drink stall and a noodle stall inside the market. The impact tore through the metal roofing and damaged parts of the stall frames, leaving debris scattered across the area. People nearby ran and shouted as the scene unfolded.
At the moment the tree started to fall, the noodle vendor was standing at the pot, blanching noodles for customers. She noticed the tree leaning strangely. At the same time, she heard unusual sounds above the roof, so she bolted out of the stall.

Only seconds later, the tree came down with full force, crushing the structure. The steel frame bent, the roof caved in, and equipment inside the shop was tossed around. Nearby vendors and residents were shaken, but no injuries were reported.
After the tree fell, officials and related workers checked the site and started clearing large branches and damaged building materials to prevent more danger.
Meanwhile, many residents criticized the safety planning for tree cutting in a busy community area. People said crews should set clearer safety zones and prepare stronger controls, especially when work happens near crowded market stalls and customers.
