(CTN News) – According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai will experience heavy to exceedingly severe rainfall over the next four to five days. Currently, torrential rains are affecting the city, and the Konkan region is under an orange alert.

In the past twenty-four hours, Mumbai has received 93 millimeters of precipitation. For three consecutive days, the capital experienced daily rainfall of 100mm.

A “yellow” signal has been issued specifically for Mumbai for the next three days, indicating that certain locations will experience persistently high rainfall.

Shahaji Nagar Municipal School in Trombay received 155.6 mm of precipitation on Sunday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., as reported by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The North Division office recorded 151.1mm, Nutan Vidyamandir in Mankhurd recorded 149.6mm, and Adarsh Nagar in Worli recorded 129.2mm of rainfall.

Flight delays

Heavy rainfall has disrupted airline operations in Mumbai.

The runway operations were suspended twice on Sunday, once for eight minutes at 12:12 pm and again from 1 pm to 1:15 pm, as a result of the torrential rains. Waterlogging at the stations of Mankhurd, Panvel, and Kurla resulted in 15 to 20-minute delays for local train services on the Harbour Line. However, the Western Railway segment was unaffected.

Central Railway services on the down rapid line, which connects Dadar and Matunga stations, encountered complications on Sunday night. Waterlogging on the Dadar train tracks exacerbated the issue on the Up and Down rapid lines.

According to the IMD, rainfall in East Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh is anticipated to be mild to moderate over the next five days, in addition to thunderstorms and lighting.

Thunderstorms, lightning, and severe to extremely torrential rainfall are anticipated in Himachal Pradesh on Monday and Tuesday.

Predictions indicate that rainfall is imminent in numerous districts, including Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Chamba, Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Kullu, Mandi, and Kangra.
