CHIANG RAI – People across the arts world and beyond gathered in sorrow. They joined the funeral rites for “Em Mueang Phan,” the close aide and secretary to renowned artist Prof. Chalermchai Kositpipat. The multi-purpose hall behind Wat Rong Khun overflowed with mourners. Cremation comes tomorrow, April 6.
Narin Thamas, 49, known as Em Mueang Phan, rode a big-bike motorcycle. He crashed on a sharp curve at Ban Tin Doi, Moo 8, Mae Suai district. The accident happened in the evening on April 3.
Relatives and Prof. Chalermchai brought his body to the hall at Wat Rong Khun, Pa Ao Don Chai subdistrict, Mueang Chiang Rai.
The first night of chanting started at 7:30 p.m. on April 4. Artists, local leaders, friends, and family came. Everyone shared deep grief.
Prof. Chalermchai spoke to the crowd. He said cremation follows the schedule. After death, the body holds no value. Good deeds and kindness remain. Those define our time together. Death follows nature’s course. He thanked all who attended.
Chanting continues tonight, April 5, at 7:30 p.m. Then, on April 6, morning rites begin around 10:30 a.m. At noon, the procession heads to Rong Khun Sangjai Crematorium in Santai Noi, Mueang Chiang Rai.
Em stayed close to Prof. Chalermchai. He traveled with the group at home and abroad. He rode motorcycles on tours to various spots. Plus, he ran the Facebook page “Narin Thamas.”
He also managed the “Following the Life of Prof. Chalermchai Kositpipat” page. It shared news, photos, and videos about the artist for years.
