BANGKOK – A 38-year-old man was arrested in Bangkok, Thailand, on Wednesday evening after his mother reported him to the police for sending her text messages demanding sexual favors. The arrest took place around 5:30 p.m. near the Phra Khanong Canal in the Suan Luang district.
Authorities stepped in because the terrified mother feared for her safety following her son’s increasingly aggressive and bizarre behavior, which police say was fueled by heavy methamphetamine use and severe hallucinations.
The troubling situation started when a frightened mother realized she could no longer handle her son alone. She told authorities that her 38-year-old son was acting very strange. Most notably, she noticed the way he looked at her had changed completely. He no longer looked at her the way a son looks at a loving mother.
Things escalated quickly when he began sending her messages on the popular messaging platform, LINE. In these texts, he openly asked her for sexual intercourse. This shocking request terrified her. Furthermore, the son began spreading disturbing lies in their neighborhood.
He told several neighbors that he and his mother were actually husband and wife. Because of these scary actions and his unpredictable behavior, the mother knew she had to get away. She bravely reached out to the authorities to seek protection.
The Power of Social Media
The local police did not handle this case entirely on their own. They received major assistance from a famous local group known as the Gun Jompalang Foundation. A well-known Thai social activist, Guntouch “Gun Jompalang” Pongpaiboonwet, runs this foundation. Because he has about 10 million followers on Facebook, his voice carries a lot of weight.
His Facebook page shared the terrifying details of the mother’s daily ordeal. Soon after, screenshots of the son’s disturbing texts leaked online. This sparked a massive public reaction.
- Public Outrage: People felt intense anger at the grown man’s actions toward his own mother.
- Deep Sympathy: Many internet users showed strong support and sympathy for the mother.
- Rapid Action: The intense public pressure helped push authorities to act quickly to ensure the woman’s safety.
On Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., officers from the Samrong Tai police station moved in. They found the suspect hiding in a local community near the Phra Khanong Canal. When the police finally caught him, the man was clearly not thinking straight.
According to reports from the Bangkok Post, the man was speaking gibberish and acting as if he was seeing things that were not really there. During his first brief interview with the police, he confessed to sending the awful texts. More importantly, he openly admitted to using methamphetamine earlier that same morning. The drugs clearly caused his dangerous hallucinations.
Police Charges and Punishments
The police have charged the man with a very serious crime. The official charge is sexual harassment, causing distress and disrupting a person’s normal life. Pol Col Piyawat Patcharaniyatham, the superintendent of the Samrong Tai station, confirmed these official details.
If the court finds the suspect guilty, he will face strict legal penalties:
- Up to two full years in a Thai prison.
- A hefty fine of up to 40,000 Thai baht.
- The possibility of both prison time and a heavy fine, depending on the judge’s final ruling.
This sad story highlights a much bigger issue in many communities today. Drug abuse, especially involving methamphetamine, can tear families apart. The mother stated that her son often heard fake voices in his head and displayed violent tendencies. These are textbook signs of severe drug addiction.
When a person uses hard drugs, they lose touch with reality. This puts everyone around them at great risk, even their own parents. Currently, police are keeping the man securely locked in custody. They must wait for the illegal drugs to completely wear off before they can question him properly. Once he is completely sober, the legal process will move forward.
