The Isan Creative Festival 2026 (ISANCF2026), organized by the Creative Economy Agency (Public Organization) or CEA together with its partner networks, returns this July with an invitation to experience the “New Isan” under the theme “NORTHEAST MODERN: Abundance | Adaptation | Connectivity” — a portrait of a region rich in potential, creativity and economic opportunity.
Across nine days, more than 200 creative programs will put Northeast Thailand’s assets on full display, all in pursuit of one question: “How can Isan’s assets be further developed and transformed into new possibilities?”
Abundance: From Local Capital to Creative Opportunity, Ready to Serve
The festival opens with “Abundance” (Phrorm-Sap), a fresh look at the wealth of cultural capital, natural resources, and local wisdom the region already holds, and an invitation to move from “the assets we have” to “what they could become” — the raw material of a creative economy without limits.

- The NORTHEAST MODERN Exhibition – The festival’s anchor exhibition opens the journey into the new Isan through showcases and case studies drawn from all 20 provinces of the region. Three zones trace the arc from abundance to adaptation: the discovery of local assets, their transformation into innovations such as MUVITA, KKU VOLT and a ballistic-protection material developed from silkworm cocoons, and a closing showcase of work by the region’s creative networks that points toward Isan’s creative-economy future.
From 11 – 19 July 2026, 11.00 – 21.00 hrs.│TCDC Khon Kaen.

- The Isan Server Exhibition – A fresh look at Isan’s cultural capital through the lens of the game industry, turning local stories, ways of life and identity into playable content. Visitors can learn how a game concept is developed — moving from “player to creator” — and try 10 prototype games built on Isan cultural roots.
- The exhibition explores three readings of “returning home”: Return to Memory, Return to Spirit and Return to Place, sparking ideas for taking local IP to the global games market.
From 11 – 19 July 2026, 11.00 – 21.00 hrs.│Gallery Room, TCDC Khon Kaen.

- The Isan Rainy Season Exhibition – An installation that recasts the rainy months from tourism “Low season” into “a source of inspiration and new possibility”, inviting visitors to live with and play with the rain through four creative works as follows: “Rain Theatre”, which makes rainfall part of the artwork itself; “TRACE OF TIME”, where raindrops and time slowly pattern lengths of fabric; “Rain of the Underdogs”, which turns the sound of falling water into music; and “My Rain – Your Rain”, an exploration of personal memories and feelings about the rain.
From 11 – 19 July 2026, 11.00 – 21.00 hrs.│TCDC Khon Kaen (outdoor parking area)

- The ZAAP System Exhibition – the program offers a deep dive into “Zaap”— the bold, punchy flavor profile that defines Isan cuisine— presented as a complete system of food wisdom connecting ingredients, ways of life and eating culture, while pointing to new opportunities for the food industry. The exhibition is structured around four key highlights: ROOT, tracing the origins of Isan flavor; RICE, exploring rice as the heart of the Isan table; RELATION, examining people and the culture of eating together; and REACH, extending Isan food into contemporary menus, products and experiences with global appeal.
From 11 – 19 July 2026, 11.00 – 21.00 hrs.│ TCDC Khon Kaen.

- The Isan Brand-Der Exhibition – A city-branding project that assigns each of Isan’s 20 provinces an “Provincial Element” — earth, water, wind or fire — drawn from ancient philosophy and ritual traditions, and uses it as a framework for sustainable provincial development. By decoding the identity of each locality, the exhibition shows how a city’s roots can be translated into design, storytelling and cultural products that create new value and economic opportunity.
From11 – 19 July 2026

- The Good City, Better Living Exhibition – Let explores the idea that a truly livable city is shaped not only by its infrastructure, but also by the people, partnerships and shared experiences that bring it to life. Through the Good City Exhibition, thought-provoking showcases, talks and interactive urban activities, the program highlights the potential of all 20 Isan provinces while encouraging dialogue, collaboration and civic participation. Together, these experiences invite visitors to imagine — and help shape — a more inclusive, sustainable and liveable future for Northeast Thailand’s cities.
From 11 – 19 July 2026, 11.00 – 21.00 hrs.│ Treasury Museum, Khon Kaen.

- Isan Studio Showcase – Works from more than 30 Isan studios and creative entrepreneurs from across Northeast Thailand demonstrate how local identity, craftsmanship and traditional wisdom are being reinterpreted through contemporary, sustainable design. The showcase also features a Creative Business Matching program, connecting creators with entrepreneurs, buyers and business partners to foster new collaborations, expand market access and unlock commercial opportunities for Isan’s growing creative industries.

“Adaptation”: Upgrading Existing Strengths into the Skills of the Future
In a fast-moving world, Isan refuses to stand still. “Adaptation” (Prab-Tua) reflects the region’s knack for taking cultural roots and creating new value that speaks to the present day.

They will share how tradition can inspire innovation and create new economic value while staying rooted in local identity. About the Isan Creative Festival
Isan Creative Festival (ISANCF) was first launched in 2019 by the Creative Economy Agency (Public Organization) or CEA, in collaboration with networks of designers, artists, entrepreneurs, and civil society from across the Isan region. The festival aims to provide a platform for the people of Isan to showcase their creative potential through art, design, music, food, technology, and community-based initiatives, while driving regional urban development through culture.
By bridging cultural heritage with the new economy, the festival transforms local wisdom into a sustainable creative economy platform. It has since become one of the region’s leading creative festivals with strong ties to international networks such as World Design Weeks and the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), supporting the vision of positioning Khon Kaen as a globally recognized Creative City.
About the Creative Economy Agency (Public Organization)
The Creative Economy Agency (Public Organization) or CEA was established on August 14, 2018, through the elevation of the Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC) into a public organization under the supervision of the Prime Minister’s Office. CEA is tasked with promoting and enhancing the potential of Thailand’s creative economy as a driving force for balanced and sustainable economic development in the long term. One of CEA’s core missions is to develop Creative Districts — areas that foster innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship.
The agency supports the transformation of local areas into vibrant ecosystems for creative business while strengthening their connection with surrounding communities. CEA also plays a key role in growing the creative industries by building capacity and linking networks, empowering creativity as a tool for business growth and improving the quality of life for Thai people. The Isan Creative Festival is organized by CEA, Northeastern Regional Office.
