CHIANG RAI – On Tuesday, investigators at Mueang Chiang Rai Police Station were alerted to a fatal shooting at a home in Huai Sak, Mueang Chiang Rai District. Senior officers, along with a forensic doctor and crime-scene staff, went to the scene to check what happened.
Police found the victim, 38-year-old Ekasit, in the home’s parking area. He was lying facedown and had died at the scene. He had been shot multiple times, and there was a large amount of blood on the ground. A 9 mm handgun was found nearby.
Early information suggested four people lived in the house: the victim and a relative, 29-year-old Thirasak from Bang Saphan District, Prachuap Khiri Khan, plus Thirasak’s wife and child. Before the shooting, people nearby reported hearing a loud argument inside the house.
Soon after, Thirasak and his family left the home, while Ekasit was later found dead.
Police focused on Thirasak as a suspect and began searching right away. They later learned he and his family had gone to Chiang Rai Bus Terminal 2 in San Sai, Mueang Chiang Rai District.
Officers arrived and found Thirasak on a tour bus with his belongings, before it had departed. He was taken into custody and brought back to Mueang Chiang Rai Police Station for questioning.
During initial questioning, Thirasak said there was a struggle over the gun between him and the victim, and the weapon went off, hitting Ekasit. Police said they will continue interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence before proceeding with legal action.
