PHUKET – A 24-year-old Iraqi man was shot and killed on a roadside in Patong, Phuket, and police are now working to track down the gunman. The victim was identified as Ameer Mundher Mamood, a 24-year-old Iraqi national.

At 5:53 p.m. on February 7, 2026, Patong Police were alerted by the emergency room at Patong Hospital that a foreign man had been brought in with a gunshot wound. He had been shot near an area opposite a hotel on Siriraj Road in Patong, Kathu District. The victim later died at the hospital, and officers were asked to join the on-duty doctor for the examination.

Investigators, led by the Patong Police chief and the investigation team, rushed to the scene and split into two groups. One team went to Patong Hospital to confirm the victim’s information. At the same time, the other, working with forensic officers, checked the crime scene for evidence and began tracing the suspect’s escape route.

Ameer was hit by 2 gunshots from a firearm of an unknown caliber. Doctors were still examining the bullet inside the victim’s body at the time of the report.

Initial interviews found that around 5:40 p.m. the same day, the victim was standing across from the hotel on Siriraj Road, checking his motorcycle. A suspect described as a tan-skinned male, about 175 to 180 cm tall, approached on foot.

He was reportedly wearing a black full-face helmet, a black short-sleeve T-shirt, blue jeans, black sneakers, and carrying a black-and-white shoulder bag.

Police said the suspect pulled out a gun and fired at the victim, then ran back the way he came. Nearby CCTV footage captured the suspect walking past the cameras before the shooting and running past again afterward. The victim suffered critical injuries and later died at Patong Hospital.

Investigators believe the suspect may be a foreign national and that there may have been a prior dispute with the victim. Police are reviewing CCTV along possible getaway routes and continuing efforts to arrest the suspect for prosecution.
