Gen. Narit Thawornwong, Commander of the Narcotics Suppression Command told a press briefing that a border parole seized 11,000,000 methamphetamine pills in Chiang Dao District of Chiang Mai Province.

He said a border patrol consisting of police personnel and soldiers from the Pha Muang Task Force intercepted two men loading a pickup truck in a corn field in Tung Khao Phuang Subdistrict, Chiang Dao District, Chiang Mai Province.

Upon inspection of the scene found 55 sacks disguised as fertilizer, each containing approximately 200,000 methamphetamine pills, totaling approximately 11,000,000 meth pills.

Gen. Narit revealed Narcotics Suppression Command received information that due to heavy flood in Chiang Rai Province, drug smugglers would try to transport drugs through the border at Fang District, Chiang Dao Province or Wiang Haeng District, Chiang Mai Province.

Therefore, he deployed additional forces to intercept drug shipments that could possible use 5 border districts of Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son Provinces.

He said throughout the past 9 months, there have been 26 clashes with drug traffickers in the 5 border districts of Chiang Mai Province, with 24 seizures and arrests. Narcotics Suppression Command was able to expand their investigation and make 3 seizures this month.

More than 80 million methamphetamine pills and 338 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine have been seized.
