CHIANG RAI – On Sunday, a coordinated team of police, administrative officers, and soldiers searched forested areas and villages in Wiang Kaen District to find and arrest Mr. Songpor Saemua, who allegedly killed his former wife and her younger brother before fleeing.
According to Pol. Col. Suphakorn Phromcharoen, Superintendent of Wiang Kaen Police Station, said the incident happened on 6 June 2025 at around 5:30 pm when Wiang Kaen police received a report of a woman found dead at house number 93, Moo 15, Por Sub-district, Wiang Kaen.
At the scene, officers found Ms. Tong Saeyang, 48, lying dead in front of her bedroom door, dressed in a long-sleeve shirt and trousers, with a severe wound near her left ear and blood pooling on the floor. A knife was found near the body.
Investigators learned that the victim and Mr. Songpor Saemua had separated over a year ago. Before the incident, she had recently moved back in with him. The victim’s daughter noticed her mother had been missing for longer than usual.
When she checked, she found the house locked from the inside. Relatives looked through the window and saw the body blocking the bedroom door, prompting them to call the police. Authorities believe Mr. Songpor is responsible because he could not be found after the crime.
On 7 June 2025, at about 9:30 am, police were told a man’s body had been found in a garden in Moo 15, Por Sub-district, Wiang Kaen. The deceased was identified as Mr. Chanchai Yangworakul, a relative of Ms. Tong Saeyang.
Initial reports suggest both incidents were connected. Police suspect Mr. Songpor Saemua committed both murders and are now searching the area to arrest him.
Also on Sunday, police from Mae Sai Station in Chiang Rai were called to deal with a man threatening his mother and neighbours with a knife at Moo 6, Pong Ngam Sub-district, Mae Sai District.
When officers arrived, they found Mr. Bas (surname withheld), 38, in a frenzied state, holding a knife. Police tried to calm him, but he refused to cooperate and warned officers to stay away. Using police tactics, officers managed to safely detain him.
A search of his room uncovered 10 methamphetamine pills. Mr. Bas admitted to owning and using the drugs. Police charged him with possession and use of a Category 1 drug (methamphetamine) and took him to Mae Sai Police Station for legal proceedings.
This incident left residents nearby shaken, but police brought the situation under control quickly and safely. No one was injured.
