The Chiang Rai Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office reports that the flood situation in many areas of Chiang Rai Province is still concerning, even though the water level has decreased.

The water level in the Kok River in Ban Mai Bua Daeng, Mae Khao Tom Subdistrict, Mueang Chiang Rai District at 09.05 a.m. on Friday was deeper than 7.31 meters, approaching the critical point of 8 meters, which may cause the banks to overflow.

While the Ing River, which flooded many areas of Thoeng District, has receded, the water mass has overflowed the lower areas of Khun Tan District and Phayao Mengrai District, especially the road community of Ban Ta, Tambon Chuntal.

The water slowly flowed into the Mekong River in Chiang Khong District, the Thai-Laos border, because the water level in the Mekong River is still at the edge of the banks.

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office has requested helicopter support after the flooding in Chiang Rai Province. Many areas, such as Thoeng District, Wiang Kaen District, and Khun Tan District, were severely damaged.

In addition to houses, large areas of agricultural land were flooded, electricity and water systems were out of service, and many transportation routes were severely damaged.

The road to Phu Chi Fa has collapsed, and landslides have cut off communities in many areas. The Mekong River is still high, causing the Ing River to overflow heavily from Thoeng-Khun Tan-Phaya Mengrai.

In addition, heavy rain in Burma has caused the water level in the Sai River to rise again, flooding the banks and affecting the Salom Joy Market, Mae Sai District, and Tachilek Province, Myanmar, which are lowlands on the opposite bank for many days.

Yesterday, around 9:00 a.m., the Meteorologist Department reported heavy rain on the Burmese side upstream of the Sai River. As the volume of the Sai River-Rwak River is expected to increase, an announcement was made to warn people along the banks and lowlands.

Meanwhile, the Chiang Rai Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO) and related agencies have rushed to survey, help villagers, and repair several damaged roads.

Road No. 1093, Phu Sang-Phu Chi Fa. , Pang Ka-Phu Chi Fa, Ban Hok-Wiang Kaen in Tambon Tap Tao, Amphoe Thoeng, and Ban Yu Suk, Village No. 10, Tambon Por, Amphoe Wiang Kaen, were cut off.

A landslide blocked the village’s entrance and exit roads, affecting about 40 houses. In addition, 12 teachers were trapped at Banp Wittaya School, Amphoe Por, because they could not enter or exit.

Various buildings, including teacher residences, electric poles, etc., were damaged, and there was a power outage.

Recently, someone posted on the school’s page that they thanked everyone for their encouragement and that all teachers were safe and had returned home.

After the houses were damaged, the teachers had to sleep in their classrooms temporarily. Later, the administrators ordered the school to temporarily close. If the situation improves, they will reopen as usual.
