Exploring The PSC Full Form and Its Significance

The acronym “PSC” refers to various entities and organizations across different fields. In this article, we will delve into the most commonly known full form of PSC which is the Public Service Commission and explore its significance in its respective domains.

Public Service Commission:

The full form of PSC in the government body is the Public Service Commission. A Public Service Commission is a state government agency responsible for the recruitment, selection, and appointment of civil servants in the public sector.

Public Service Commission is defined as per the constitution under Articles 315 to 323 in Part XIV of the Indian Constitution. The services run under the government.

They are renowned for their transparency, fairness, and meritocracy in the hiring process. While the most significant PSCs include the Union Public Service Commission and different State Level Service Commissions.

The PSC Full Form Union Public Service Commission or UPSC conducts exams for hiring candidates for Indian Services at the national and higher levels. On the other hand, the State Public Service Commission recruit officers for state agencies.

PSC Examination

The Public Service Commission examinations are conducted to recruit candidates across different government positions in individual states. It evaluates the skills and knowledge of candidates before making appointments. The examination is objective type and its syllabus differs from state to state. This exam is segregated into 3 parts: a preliminary exam, a major exam and an interview. The student has to qualify both exams to be eligible for the interview.

Functions of PSC

The Public Service Commissioners help in developing and advising the government on service delivery strategies. They also oversee the formulation and performance of government programs.

These commissioners also advise on government strategies, practices, policies and structure. PSC also identifies the government reform possibilities and delivers the changes in the policy to the government.

Difference Between PSC and UPSC

The selection for the PSC is done by the state commission while for UPSC the selection is done through the union commission. For the PSC the appointment is done at the state level on the other hand the UPSC is for the central level. The exam pattern of both PSC and UPSC are similar except the UPSC aspirants also have to appear for CSAT.
