NEW DELHI – Maruti Suzuki introduced the Maruti Victoris, a midsize SUV set to lead its Arena dealership line-up. This launch is a turning point for India’s top carmaker. With the Maruti Victoris (sometimes called Escudo), Maruti Suzuki enters the busy compact SUV segment, lining up against established models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Honda Elevate.

The Maruti Victoris stands out for its sharp looks, new features, and a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating. Maruti aims to boost its standing in the premium SUV sector with this new flagship.

Maruti Victoris Design and Size: Striking Looks with Everyday Practicality

The Victoris brings a modern style, building on the Grand Vitara’s appearance while keeping its own flair. It stretches 4,360 mm in length, 1,795 mm wide, and 1,655 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,600 mm. This places it above the Brezza in size, sitting neatly between Maruti’s smaller and larger SUV choices.

Its front grabs attention with a wide grille framed in chrome, slim LED daytime running lights, and bold LED headlights sitting lower for a unique look. The bumper gets sporty black inlays and a silver skid plate for a tough finish. Buyers can pick from 17-inch or 18-inch dual-tone alloys, and the squared-off wheel arches with a gently floating roof add even more appeal. At the back, the linked LED taillights and hands-free powered tailgate carry a premium feel.

Inside, Maruti Victoris offers either a black-and-ivory cabin or an all-black setting with gold highlights. The layered dash uses soft materials and gets customizable ambient lighting in 64 colours.

There’s a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, plus a 10.1-inch SmartPlay Pro X touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Alexa voice support. Music lovers can enjoy the Harman Infinity audio with Dolby Atmos, making every drive more immersive.

Comfort is top-of-mind, thanks to ventilated front seats, a wide sunroof, and a wireless charging pad.

Engine and Driving: Flexible and Efficient Options

Borrowing technology from the Grand Vitara, the Maruti Victoris comes with several engines to suit all needs. The 1.5-litre K-series petrol engine delivers 103hp and 139 N · m torque and is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed auto.

Official mileage is 21.18 kmpl for the manual and 21.06 kmpl for the auto. For drivers who want to save on fuel, the 1.5-litre strong-hybrid offers 116hp and an e-CVT, rated at a class-leading 28.65 km/l. Maruti also caters to CNG fans with a version producing 87hp and 121 N · m, with an underfloor CNG tank so you can still use the boot. This version returns 27.02 km/kg.

Those who like off-roading can opt for the ALLGRIP Select 4×4, included in top variants with auto gearboxes. This offers multiple terrain modes and hill control for extra confidence away from the tarmac.

Safety sits at the heart of the Victoris. Backed by a 5-star Bharat NCAP score (31.66/32 for adults, 43/49 for children), the Victoris comes with six airbags, a 360-degree camera, stability control, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and an electronic parking brake with auto-hold.

The SUV also showcases Maruti’s first Level 2 ADAS package in India, including adaptive cruise, lane-keeping, emergency braking, blind-spot alerts, and rear cross-traffic alerts. These features bring Maruti Victoris among the safest options in its class.

The Maruti Victoris is available in six variants: LXI, VXI, ZXI, ZXI(O), ZXI+, and ZXI+(O), appealing to a wide range of budgets. Buyers can choose from 10 body colours, with seven monotones (Arctic White, Splendid Silver, Eternal Blue, Sizzling Red, Bluish Black, Magma Grey, Mystic Green) and three two-tone styles.

While official prices will be revealed around Diwali 2025, estimates place the range from ₹9.75 lakh up to ₹20 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings can be made with ₹11,000 at Arena showrooms or online.

Public Response: High Hopes and Early Praise

Excitement over the Maruti Victoris is high, with Indian buyers sharing strong opinions on platforms like Reddit and X. Praise goes to its “got it all” message, the broad feature list, and its 5-star safety score—a notable switch from Maruti’s usual focus on budget cars. Several fans say the Maruti Victoris feels like something completely new from the brand, citing its modern styling and premium kit.

Posts online, including one from @volklub, call the Maruti Victoris a “winner from day one”, highlighting its flexible engine choices, safety, and style. Some are worried about its overlap with the Brezza and Grand Vitara, questioning if it might eat into their sales, while others ask if a Toyota version might follow, given their partnership.

Maruti Victoris has won points for adding Level 2 ADAS and fitting the CNG tank under the floor, solving a common complaint about boot space. The hybrid model’s strong efficiency figures have drawn notice from buyers who want to cut running costs and lower emissions.

A few, though, have called for a punchier engine, suggesting a 1.4-litre BoosterJet would satisfy drivers looking for more pace. On pricing, plenty hope Maruti keeps the Victoris affordable to gain an edge over rivals like the Creta and Seltos.

The Maruti Victoris arrives in a crowded market yet still manages to stand out with its blend of style, new features, eco-friendly engines, and strong safety. Export plans to more than 100 countries show Maruti’s intent to grow overseas, while availability at Arena showrooms ensures it reaches local buyers easily.

With the festive season not far off, the Maruti Victoris looks set to appeal to families and young drivers searching for an upmarket but practical SUV. Whether it can topple segment leaders depends on how much value it offers, but Maruti Suzuki has clearly raised its own standards with this launch.
