Daytona 500 Postponed Due To Rain; NASCAR Xfinity Series Race On Monday

(CTN News) – On Monday, NASCAR will hold at least one race. Xfinity Series race at Daytona International Speedway is postponed to Monday because of persistent rain, the sanctioning body announced late Saturday afternoon.

In the past, the race was scheduled to begin after 5 p.m. on Saturday, Eastern Time. As a result, it has been moved to 11 a.m. on Monday, Eastern Time.

The rain began to fall on Saturday afternoon, and it remains to be seen that it will not be abating for the foreseeable future.

There is a slim to none chance that the Daytona 500 will take place on Sunday, unless the weather forecast changes dramatically in a dramatic way.

There is no specific time for the start of the American race, but it is expected that it will begin shortly after 3 p.m. on Sunday Eastern Standard Time.

The weather is expected to remain wet through the remainder of Saturday and into Sunday. As of Sunday evening, there are over 80% of rain chances in the Daytona Beach, Florida, area, and they do not decrease below 50% until the early hours of Monday morning.

In the event that the season-opening Cup Series race cannot be run on Sunday because of rain, it is likely to be run after the Xfinity Series race on Monday. There is enough time between the Xfinity Series race and the 500 for it to be run afterward.

Recent seasons have been plagued by heavy rains at the Daytona 500. Due to rain, the 2020 race was postponed until Monday, and the 2021 race was completed late on Sunday evening.

Throughout the week leading up to the 500, there has been the threat of rain. As a result, NASCAR moved Saturday afternoon’s ARCA race to late Friday night after the conclusion of the Truck Series race in order to ensure that the fourth-tier series would be able to complete its race and teams would not be required to spend multiple days in Daytona.

Over 180 scheduled laps of racing between the ARCA and Truck races, 21 cautions were issued over the course of the two races early on Saturday morning.
