Buriram United Edge Out Chiangrai United in Thrilling 2-1 Victory

CHIANG RAI – Buriram United, last season’s champions, defeated Chiangrai United 2-1 in the BYD C Lions League One match on Sunday, 31 August. This win marks Buriram’s third straight victory this season.

The match opened with Buriram taking the lead in the 20th minute. Supachai Chaided collected the ball from midfield and carried it up the right side. He then passed the ball to Robert Zulj, who was waiting near the edge of the box.

Zulj returned the pass into space for Supachai, who dashed into the right side of the area. Apirak Worawong blocked his shot, but the ball fell to Zulj, who headed it into the net.

In the 33rd minute, the home team drew level. Itsuki Enomoto played a short pass to Sanukran Thinjom, who quickly slipped the ball to Carlos Iperi on the left side of the box. Iperi fired a right-footed shot that beat Neil Etheridge’s outstretched hand, pulling Chiangrai back to 1-1.

Buriram secured the win in the 55th minute. Peter Zulj stole the ball on the right flank and dribbled into the box, sidestepping three defenders. He then played the ball to Robert Zulj, whose shot was blocked by Piyaphon Phanichakul. The rebound looped up for Sandy Walsh, who ran in and hammered it home.

With this victory, Buriram United stay at the top of the table with 9 points from 3 games. Chiangrai United sit eighth with 4 points.

What’s Next for Chiangrai United?

Chiangrai United, now with one win and one loss in their opening matches, will look to bounce back from this defeat when they face Port FC on September 7, 2025, at the PAT Stadium in Bangkok. Port, known for their attacking flair, will pose a significant challenge for Chiangrai as they aim to climb the Thai League 1 standings.
