CHIANG RAI – Chiangrai United banked a controlled 2-0 home victory over Phalang Kan FC on Saturday night, lifting spirits and points in Thai League 1. More than 8,000 fans filled Singha Chiang Rai Stadium, wrapped up against the cool northern air, and watched the hosts deliver a tidy, disciplined display that moves them up the table.

The Beetles set the tone from kick-off. Their press pinned the visitors back and disrupted any attempt to build from deep. Phalang Kan, focused on staying compact, struggled to escape the pressure as Chiangrai knitted attacks through midfield with sharp passing and quick movement.

The opener arrived in 28 minutes. Renan Gorne timed his run to perfection to meet a precise through ball from Surachart Sae-Jae, then steered a calm finish past goalkeeper Pongsakorn Paeyo into the bottom left corner. It was Gorne’s third of the season, a timely reminder of his value in front of goal.

Phalang Kan rallied briefly before the interval, but Chiangrai’s defence stood firm. Adisorn Promrak organized the back line with authority, and keeper Apirak Worachai dealt comfortably with a long-range strike from Nattapong Samana. The hosts reached half-time in control, although the bench urged focus to avoid any slip in standards.

The visitors advanced their line after the break and added fresh legs, yet the second goal went the other way on the hour. Ekanit Panya won the ball in midfield and sparked a rapid counter. He then delivered a measured cross that found defender Weerathep Pomphan six yards out. Pomphan rose highest and guided a strong header into the net, a reward for his aerial strength that has served Chiangrai well this season.

From there, it became about calm management. Head coach Emerson Pereira da Silva asked his side to slow the game, use possession, and protect the cushion. Changes off the bench added pace and energy, with young winger Siriwat Sangthong stretching play on the break. Phalang Kan finished with only three efforts on target, a reflection of the home team’s organization without the ball.

The final whistle brought loud celebrations around the ground, with home supporters saluting a professional job. The result leaves Phalang Kan under pressure, as manager Somchai Chuayduangphai’s team now sits just two points clear of the drop zone. He acknowledged the gap in quality on the night and said his squad would take the lessons forward.

Pereira da Silva praised the group for a complete home performance, picking out Gorne and the defensive unit for special mention. The three points lifted Chiangrai United to seventh in Thai League 2, six behind the promotion play-off places, with 12 matches still to play.

Next up, the Beetles visit mid-table Nakhon Pathom United on 2 November. Phalang Kan returns home for a key fixture against bottom-side Lampang FC. With temperatures falling in the north, Chiangrai’s form is warming up at just the right time.
